Eliminate the Odour

Kitchen sinks can be the source of really bad smells. If you've blamed your partner's cooking for the past few years then you should apologise immediately. Kitchen sink drains can often be the culprit here, trapping rotting food in the waste pipe and food grinder. Many people do nothing to resolve the issue as they believe it is out of their hands when really it is only out of their sight. This is one of the easiest issues to fix and isn’t even time consuming.

If you have a food grinder then the issue could be that the food you have put down hasn't been fully ground down, therefore it is stuck and rotting. Think of a food grinder as a digestion system - it takes time to break the food down. Run the grinder for longer than usual to ensure that you are allowing enough time for your grinder to do its job. Avoid putting food down in large chunks, grinders particularly find bread difficult to process so it may be best to dispose of bread and similar foods in the dustbin.

If the smell continues then there a few simple and common solutions that people often use. Putting the rind of citrus fruits down the grinder can reduce the odour. The acid is great for eliminating odours and the fruity aroma will refresh your kitchen. If food is lodged in your grinder and you can hear it struggling, try popping a few small ice cubes down there to dislodge the food without breaking the grinder.

If you do not have a grinder then the problem is most likely coming from your waste pipe. Pouring bleach, vinegar and baking soda or lemon juice down the plughole are all remedies people use.

Drop the Drip

The dripping kitchen tap is a very common problem for homeowners, and can even drive the dog insane. A dripping tap is crying out for some attention and signifies a problem that needs rectifying. Usually, replacing the washer can remedy this annoyance and restore harmony throughout the kitchen. The valve seat can also cause a dripping tap, re-grinding the valve seat should stop the drip if the washer isn't at fault.

You may require a spanner and screwdriver to assist you on your task of replacing the washer. Should the dripping continue then a plumber should assist you if the problem lies deeper than the washer and valve seat.

Fixing your common kitchen sink problems can restore the functionality of your kitchen. Unpleasant odours and irritating noises can prevent people from enjoying their cooking experience in the kitchen.
