Tackling Toe Nail Fungus

Date Added: November 07, 2007 07:40:22 PM

Have you ever found yourself hiding your feet because your toenails are discolored and thick? Are you embarrassed to go barefoot on the beach or wear that beautiful pair of sandals you purchased a while ago? If so, read on! You may find treating your toenails with essential oils to be the most effective and pleasant way to show your feet off once again! No Overnight Success. I recently had an interview with a local doctor. His input and insight proved to be extremely valuable. I was quite surprised to find he was not at all supportive of the prescription drugs available to treat toenail fungus. In his words these drugs are a hit or miss proposition and the potential adverse side affects out way the benefits. One form of treatment he heard of people having some success was to treat your toenails with Vicks Vapor Rub. This however could take up to six months to see any results. The eucalyptus in the vapor rub seems to be the key ingredient. Eucalyptus Lemon is one of the essential oils proven to be affective against toenail fungus. He had also heard of people using essential oils to treat their toenails but couldn’t recommend any particular essential oil. Diligence is the Key. As the saying goes, anything worth having is worth working for. Patience is required when treating toenail fungus. It doesn’t matter if you use essential oils or prescription drugs. It will take time to see results. You can choose to risk the potential adverse side effects of the prescription drugs or the more pleasurable and relaxing treatment with essential oils. Situations Differ. Depending on what stage your toenail fungus is in will determine the amount of time and energy involved in the treatment process. In the early stages you will probably only need a simple nightly foot bath using a combination of Tea Tree oil and Lavender oil. (A relatively inexpensive foot bath and spa from your local department store is a wonderful way to soak your feet!) About $40.00. However a simple 14"x18" rectangular plastic or rubber tub will work fine. Use enough hot water so that it comes up to about your ankles. Add 3 drops of Tea Tree essential oil and 6 or 7 drops of Lavender essential oil.(preferably the organic variety) It is important to note that for the best results use only pure therapeutic grade essential oils. Soak your feet nightly for about 20 minutes. For more advanced cases a neat application of any of the following essential oils will hasten the healing process. Lemon grass, Clove Bud, Thyme, Geranium, Tea Tree, Bergamot, Basil(sweet organic) Eucalyptus Lemon and Lavender(organic). Each of these essential oils are excellent anti-fungal oils. Apply these essential oils directly on your toenails using a Q-tip. For maximum affect the neat application of your chosen essential oil should take place after your foot bath in Tea Tree and Lavender. In more severe cases it is recommended to use a variety of the above mentioned oils and alternate the neat application. Therapeutic grade essential oils have the ability to penetrate the nail and tackle the fungus. Extreme cases are rare and should be seen by a doctor before going ahead with treatment. We have been handed a case study in which the toenail fungus on most toes was 1/4 inch thick and the toenails were so long they would click on the floor. Once the toenails were trimmed we found it necessary to lift the nail slightly and apply our essential oil directly into and on the nail bed as well as on the top of the toenail itself. This treatment has provided excellent results. Our study is still ongoing with this patient, however at the time of this letter we can report that 75% of the fungus has been eliminated. These are fantastic results considering the extreme nature of the fungus and the fact this case study started a mere 2 months ago. As a word of caution when applying therapeutic grade essential oils neat. Take care to avoid making contact with the healthy skin surrounding the infected area. Never put the Q-tip into your bottle of essential oil. Always pour out of your bottle, never put any thing in. If you choose to use the citrus oils such as Bergamot or Lemon grass stay out of direct sunlight after applying these oils. In Conclusion. Essential oils provide us with a natural, safer means of treating toenail fungus to that of prescription drugs. When used properly with diligence your efforts will be rewarded. So, no matter how serious your toenail fungus is there is an alternative treatment for you using therapeutic grade essential oils.Sallie A.
